Layout block width

The Constrain width option controls how wide a layout block spans on the lesson page. You can set the width for each block, so different layouts in the same lesson can use different widths.

What the Constrain width option does

By default, layout blocks use a constrained width of 800 pixels. This keeps line lengths short and easy to read. When you switch to Full width, the layout expands to fill the page. Full-width layouts give you more room for visual or complex content.

The option applies to these layout blocks:

  • Grid

  • Steps

  • Timeline

  • Alternating

  • Cycle

Each layout stores its own width setting. Changing one block does not affect the others.

Change the width of a layout block

1. Open the lesson in the lesson editor.

2. Select the layout block you want to update.

3. In the toolbar above the block, select Constrain width or Full width to switch the setting.

The block updates in the editor, and the same width applies when a learner views the lesson.

When to use each option

Pick the width that fits the content in the block.

  • use Constrain width for text-heavy layouts, where short lines improve readability

  • use Full width for media-rich layouts, wide tables, or content that benefits from extra horizontal space

Tip: Preview the lesson after you change the width. A block that looks balanced in the editor can feel different at the screen size a learner sees.
